Transportation Department – Important Back-to-School Information
Dear Travis USD Families,
As we prepare to welcome students back to school, the Travis Unified School District Transportation Department would like to share important information and safety reminders for families whose students will be riding the school bus.
BUS PASSES – FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL
Students do not need to have their physical bus pass in hand on the first day of school in order to be picked up and transported.
Our Transportation Department is working diligently to process bus passes as quickly as possible. Once passes are ready, they will be provided directly to bus drivers, who will distribute them to students on the bus. We appreciate your patience as we process a high volume of registrations at the beginning of the school year.
GETTING READY FOR BUS PICK-UP
- Please pay careful attention to the ROUTE numbers displayed on the bus. The buses and the bus drivers can change to meet the needs of the District but the route numbers will stay the same.
- Arrive at the designated bus stop 5–10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
- Wait in a safe and visible location, away from the roadway.
- Keep heads up and headphones off while walking to and waiting at the bus stop.
- Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop and follow the driver's directions before approaching.
- Stay at least 12 feet (approximately 10 giant steps) away from the front, sides, and rear of the bus unless directed by the driver.
IMPORTANT: SEAT BELTS & BUS SAFETY
Please speak with your student before the first day of school about appropriate bus conduct and the importance of following the bus driver's instructions.
When a school bus is equipped with passenger restraint systems/seat belts, all passengers are required to use them. Students should buckle properly, remain seated while the bus is moving, and wait until the bus has completely stopped and the driver gives direction before unbuckling and exiting.
- Follow the bus driver's instructions and directions at all times.
- Remain seated and properly buckled while the bus is in motion.
- Keep aisles and emergency exits clear.
- Be courteous to the driver and other students.
- No fighting, throwing objects, loud or disruptive behavior, standing, or changing seats while the bus is moving.
- Never put any part of the body out of a bus window or throw items from the bus.
BUS CONDUCT & CONSEQUENCES
School bus transportation is a privilege. Continued disorderly conduct or refusal to follow the driver's directions may result in the loss of transportation privileges. Depending on the behavior, consequences may include a verbal warning, assigned seat, warning citation, suspension citation, or suspension pending a parent conference.
Please remind your student: Our bus drivers have an important responsibility—transporting students safely. Even a brief distraction can affect a driver's ability to focus on the road. Following bus rules, remaining seated and buckled, and listening to the driver are essential safety expectations.
